Pacer Energy Marketing Green Initiatives
Pacer Energy Marketing has taken many initiatives to ‘go green’. Read below to see how the company is actively contributing to the industry and the environment.
Sphag Sorb cleans up the Bioremediation Process: Pacer Energy Marketing uses Sphag Sorb, an all-natural, organic Lab-tested, field proven industrial absorbent that can be used universally in spill cleanup operations (small or large), remediation and reclamation. This extremely versatile and economical absorbent is environmentally friendly from cleanup to disposal. The theory behind spag is that it encapsulates a molecule of oil and will not release it until it biodegrades in approximately 10 years. Since a molecule of oil biodegrades in approximately 9 years, than the oil is gone before the spag sorb. The EPA has approved this product for use in the remediation of soil and water contaminated by oil spills.
Reduction of engine oil use in diesel trucks: Pacer Energy Marketing has switched to using fully synthetic engine oil in our trucks. These large diesel engines previously required engine oil to be changed every 10,000 miles. By using the synthetic oil we have reduced our oil changes to once every 40,000 miles with a fleet of fifty trucks. This has reduced the engine oil consumption threefold. In addition, we do not have the responsibility of disposing used oil. This oil is collected and recycled by the manufacturer once it is no longer useful for an engine.
Oil Drip Pan Use Prevents Soil Contamination: Pacer Energy Marketing uses and encourages our customers to use oil drip pans on our loading lines. Manufactured by Pollution Control Corporation (PCC), these drip pans are made from polyethylene and last up to 10 years without leaking. The pans are installed to prevent the contamination of soil below the oil loading lines when our trucks are loading and unloading oil. It is estimated that spilling 1 gallon of oil can contaminate up to 1 million gallons of fresh water.
Truck Engine Adjustment = Reduction of Diesel Fuel Consumption: Pacer has adjusted the engines in all our trucks so their maximum obtainable speed is 70 mph, this reduction showed we had a gain of .3 tenths of a mpg company wide within our fleet. This has drastically reduced our yearly diesel fuel consumption.
